Fixed

Fixed Rate

Our Fixed Rates are an excellent option if you wish to avoid variations in the electricity rate you pay every month. One-year, Two-year, and Three-year rate options are available. You can enter or exit from a contract any time during the term. When your fixed rate contract expires, you will automatically be renewed on a new fixed rate, for the same length of time, unless you request otherwise.

Variable

Wholesale Variable Rate

If you’re comfortable with a contract variable electricity rate that fluctuates monthly, our Wholesale Variable Rate might be the best choice for you. This rate is calculated using an average from the wholesale market price provided by the Alberta Energy System Operator (AESO). There are no rate markups, only an administration fee of $20.00 per month. This rate has historically been lower than our fixed and floating rates, but this is still subject to market conditions.

Rate of Last Resort (RoLR)

This rate will come into effect in 2025 as a replacement for the Regulated Rate Option (RRO). The RoLR will be a two-year fixed rate from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026. It may be adjusted up or down by a maximum of 10% following each two-year period. The price includes a $0.01 per kWh consumer awareness surcharge, which will be paid directly to the Utility Consumer Advocate (UCA).

Any member on the RoLR will have their full contact information (full names, phone numbers, email addresses, and mailing addresses) shared with the UCA every two months. The UCA will contact you to inform you of your energy choices aside from the RoLR.

Microgen

Energy Rate

If you generate your own electricity with a confirmed Blue Mountain Power Co-op Microgen account, our Microgen Energy Rate may be the right option for you. This rate is designed to compensate members for exporting surplus electricity back to the grid while still providing a competitive rate when consumption exceeds production.

Members on the Microgen rate receive $0.3000 per kWh in months where they are a net producer and pay $0.10694 per kWh in months as a net consumer. This option is best suited for any Members with a BMPC approved micro‑generation system and is offered on a yearly contract that renews automatically, available to BMPC Microgen Members in good standing.
